Our Miramar Espadrille and Belmond Mule are warm weather staples…light, breathable, and effortlessly stylish. Their mesh or satin uppers and jute-wrapped soles might require a little more attention to clean, but don't fear, it's really quite easy to keep them looking fresh. We asked our resident shoe expert, (aka our Director of Design) Janette Steele for her tips on espadrille cleaning do’s and don’ts.
DO'S: How to Keep Your Espadrilles Looking Fresh
- Spot clean when needed. Use dish soap and water with a soft cloth or brush to spot clean. For best results, use our Essential Shoe Care Kit, which includes a soft dry brush and foam cleanser. It's the perfect tool for removing dust and dirt from the satin or mesh uppers and jute-wrapped soles. Only use a soft cloth when spot cleaning the satin upper.
- Wipe them off with a white cloth. Make sure you are using a white cloth. This will prevent any color transfer to the delicate fabric.
- Let them air dry in indirect sunlight. A shaded area is best to prevent sun damage while allowing your shoes to dry naturally.
DON'TS: What to Avoid
- Don’t submerge them in water. Soaking in water can weaken the natural fibers and cause damage.
- Don’t toss them in the washing machine. Machine washing can break down the fabric and alter the shape of your shoes.
- Don’t dry them in direct sunlight. Harsh sun exposure can cause fading and dry out the materials.
